Saffron Fields Vineyard:
Expertly farmed and managed by Results Partners, it delivers every year, irrelevant of the weather. Situated on a “bench” in a protected “valley” of sorts, this site is comprised of well-drained soil made up of a soil classification known as Willakenzie, a sandy loam with interspersed sandstone underlying the granulated soil. Fully exposed with no shading, it ripens earliest within the EIEIO portfolio of vineyards and makes a strong impression with ripe dark fruit, fully ripened tannins and beautifully balanced acidity as most of the east side of the site is within these bottles.
“Wild and exotic, the 2021 Pinot Noir Saffron Fields Vineyard Art Map Label blossoms with a burst of exotic spices, zests of blood orange, tangerine and hints of sage before settling on medicinal cherries. This seductress is silky-smooth and supple with fleshy red and black fruit depths guided by tantalizing acidity. It finishes juicy, long and potent, with sweet tannins that frame the experience without slowing its momentum.” – By Eric Guido on January 2024 From: Sitting Pretty: Oregon’s New Release Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Beyond (Jan 2024)

WINEMAKER’S NOTE:
I fermented each block separately and the followed up by bottling the related fermentations individually, just like I did back in the legendary 2012 vintage, as I do believe that the 2021 vintage will prove to be as good, if not even longer-lived. I combined the blocks within the “Numbered Clones” bottling which includes the cuttings known as 115, 667, 777 and 943 to make a fruit-forward powerhouse wine as these clones tend to not only ripen earlier but also offer massive flavors.
