Right away a seemingly richer or lush smelling nose gives the impression that this will be a super ripe Pinot noir but once you imbibe, this is not the case. Interesting deep brambleberry textbook flavors showing boysenberry jam on toasted English muffin. All fruit. Where’s the beef? Two hours later it smells like Japanese salted, pickled and dried plums. Umeboshi Nicely integrated with the time. This wine changes the most with air as six hours later, it shows some meatiness.

VINOUS
December 2016

92 points. Vivid red. Lively, sharply focused red berry, cherry and rhubarb aromas are complemented by suggestions of rose oil and succulent herbs. Sappy and energetic in style, offering vibrant red currant and bitter cherry flavors that flesh out and become sweeter in the midpalate. Finishes subtly smoky and very long, displaying a lingering cherry note and silky, even tannins that add gentle grip. This wine shows the vivacity of this vintage to full effect. – Josh Raynolds

The 2013 Pinot Noir Yates Conwill Vineyard comes from the same ratio of clones as the Saffron Vineyard albeit here with 65% Pommard, the rest Wadenswil, 115 and 777 clones. It boasts the most complex bouquet of EIEIO’s 2013 releases: blackberry, briary, a touch of sous-bois and sage emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with tart red cherry fruit, fine structure and acidity, segueing into darker fruit, more tertiary towards the clean and precise finish. This is another fine Pinot Noir from EIEIO, though I would still enjoy this in its youth rather than cellaring (unlike the 2012).  91 points  – Neal Martin

Tasting Team Notes:

Yates Conwill Pinot noir 2013

Fruit compote, intense nose, lots of red old-fashioned candy flavor, ribbon candy, Warm spices, menthol thing, warm fruit, pineapple and fig, most tannins out of the four, but with light texture and acid.

I like this wine, girly fanciful flirty, delicate and floral, expressive but not out going, shy way coquettish, Burundian.. most subdued.

Nose had heady musky scent, mid palate light, finish light but with lingering smoke,

Silent trailing off at the end. Mid flavor was complex fruits and flavors.
